What is Abby’s Book Corner?
Abby's Book Corner is the name of the library at Medical City Children's Hospital. We also donate books in memory of Abby to the existing libraries at San Antonio's Methodist Children's Hospital of South Texas, Dell Children's Medical Center of Central Texas in Austin and the Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston.

How did it come about?
Abby’s Book Corner is named after Abigail Kearney, our 13 month old daughter who died on May 12, 2008. In her short life, Abby displayed a love for books. Reading was part of our daily routine. We would read books before bed each night. Abby loved to look at the pictures and turn the pages of her books. Her favorite books were Counting Colors by Roger Priddy and Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown.

When Abby was in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Medical City Children’s Hospital, we wanted to read to her. There were no books available and our family had to purchase books from the hospital gift shop. We felt it would be a good idea to hold a book drive in Abby’s memory so parents of other critically-ill children can enjoy a simple moment with their child.

We began the book drive in November 2008 with a goal of collecting 300 books. To date, we have collected several thousand books!

How can you contribute?
We are collecting new books in English and Spanish for infants through young adults. For more information, please visit our donate tab.

In Dallas, we also need financial contributions to help sustain the library. Any monetary donations are tax deductible and should be made directly to the Medical City Foundation. They must be made in memory of Abigail Kearney in order for the funds to be directed towards the library.

We welcome book donations made in memory of other children that are deceased. We will mark these books with labels that say, “Donated to Abby’s Book Corner in loving memory of...”

Future Plans
Purchases on Amazon may be made at any time. Abby's Book Corner Book Drive is an annual event, as we need to replenish the hospital libraries across the state of Texas.
